The Blues Tonight $ 22.99 from J&R.COM Personnel includes: John Mayall (vocals, guitar); Harvey Mandel (guitar); Sugarcane Harris (violin); Keef Hartley (drums); Freddy Robinson. Recorded live in 1970 and 1971. Includes liner notes by John Mayall. Like most British blues fanatics in the early '60s, John Mayall took his cues primarily from the stars of Chicago's electric blues scene. Both with the Bluesbreakers and later on his own, Mayall played a large role in introducing white audiences to electric blues. He was a leader in the emerging blues-rock movement, and his bands were an early proving ground for a number of future stars--Eric Clapton and Jack Bruce of Cream, Mick Taylor of the Rolling Stones, and Peter Green, John McVie, and Mick Fleetwood of Fleetwood Mac. Dupree : Complete Blue Horizon Sessions $ 13.19 from CD Universe 2 CD SET !After Champion Jack Dupree took up residence in Europe in the 1960s, he recorded for a number of European labels, including Blue Horizon Records, where he cut three full albums and several singles. All of that material is included on this two-disc set, which features the ivory-tickling bluesman in both solo and full-band contexts. Despite his advanced years at the time, Dupree plays with all of the vigor and guts that characterized his best early recordings--with traces of the New Orleans boogie-woogie style he began with and the Chicago style he later developed. Moreover, Dupree's charm and charisma, showcased especially in the live tracks here, are always engaging. Personnel: Champion Jack Dupree (drum); Mick Taylor, Paul Kossoff, Stan Webb (guitar); Chris Anderson (acoustic guitar); Reg Cole, Peter Oxer, Richard Studt, Barry Wilde (violin); Christopher Andrew Turner, Duster Bennett (harmonica); Les Wigfield, Alan Skidmore (tenor saxophone); Jim Chester (baritone saxophone); Terry Noonan (trumpet); Bud Parks (flugelhorn); Alex Dmochowski, Gary Thain, Stuart Brooks (bass guitar); Simon Kirke, Keef Hartley, Aynsley Dunbar (drum); Mike Vernon (percussion) |
